Condensate management

The condensed water and water aerosols cause corrosion to the storage and distribution system, damages equipment, reduces production efficiency and increases maintenance costs.

  • After the compression stage the air is typically cooled to an usable temperature.
     
  • This reduces the air’s ability to retain water vapor resulting in a proportion of the water vapor being condensed into liquid water.
     
  • The condensed water and water aerosols cause corrosion to the storage and distribution system, damage equipment, reduce production efficiency and increase maintenance costs.
     
  • Both the liquid water and the water vapor must be removed for the system to run correctly and efficiently.
     
  • The condensate contains debris (lubricant oil, rust, pipescale and aluminium hydroxide).

In case there are problems with the inflow, it is necessary to install a venting line. (IMAGE)

Drainage piping must be built without traps that would trap air in the drain and prevent condensed water to enter the drain. Additional venting would not help because the debris collects in the lowest part of the drainage pipe and clogs it.
Horizontal drainage pipes must be inclined so that the air could escape from the drain and that the debris is flushed toward it. When horizontal drainage pipes are long, venting should be built.

 
 
CONDENSATE LINE
 

The line must be laid with a gradient of approx. 1 - 2 % in the direction of the flow. The connection line must be connected to the collective line from above. Condensate that is already in the collection line can‘t go into the connection line and disrupt the drain with backpressure.
