Hydrogen is a versatile energy carrier with significant potential in low-emission energy systems. It is used across multiple sectors, including transportation, industrial processes, and energy storage, where it enables the integration of renewable energy sources. By supporting these applications, hydrogen contributes to reducing carbon emissions and improving energy system flexibility and security.

Purification of hydrogen is crucial to ensure its safety, efficiency, and suitability for various industrial and energy applications. 

There are different methods for purifying hydrogen: 
  • temperature swing adsorption (TSA), 
  • pressure swing adsorption (PSA), 
  • cryogenic distillation, 
  • and membrane-based separation.

Without proper purification and conditioning, hydrogen cannot be used in sensitive applications, like using it with fuel cell applications.

Fuel cell vehicles require hydrogen with very high purity to ensure stable operation and long-term durability. If these purity requirements are not met, contaminants can accumulate within the fuel cell, resulting in efficiency losses and potential degradation of key components.

Hydrogen as green energy

Hydrogen is increasingly seen as an element that will enable the necessary transformation of global patterns of energy production and consumption.
During use, hydrogen does not emit CO2 and there is almost no air pollution. As such, it offers a solution for decarbonising industrial processes and economic sectors where reducing CO2 emissions is essential yet difficult to achieve. 

Hydrogen’s role is in decarbonizing:
Mobility (fuel cells for buses, trucks, maritime transport),
Energy storage (conversion of surplus renewable electricity into gas and its later reuse),
Industry (steel production, chemical processes, ammonia production).

The need for hydrogen purification

Electrolysis is one of the methods for producing green hydrogen. But the process generates hydrogen-rich gas that contains moisture and residual oxygen.
Hydrogen purification is essential for achieving the required gas quality, protecting equipment, and ensuring reliable performance of downstream processes.

The presence of impurities can lead to:
reduced efficiency of fuel cells,
corrosion and mechanical damage,
safety risks during storage and transportation.

Hydrogen purification is a mandatory step before its use in mobility or energy storage applications.

A customer approached us with an idea and a specific problem, asking if we could provide a solution. As we are always open to new challenges and opportunities in new markets and gases, we agreed to take it on.
The initial unit was small and designed for a demonstration project in a startup company. The design was very different from what it is today, but it marked the beginning of our journey.
Now, 7 years later, we are manufacturing fully industrialized solutions designed for continuous 24/7 operation.
